I'm Brett Taylor, a Chartered Professional Accountant with more than 16 years of post-designation experience. I grew up in Alberta, earned my degree from the University of Alberta, and began my career with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), one of the world's largest accounting and professional services firms, in downtown Calgary. There, I articled and earned my Chartered Accountant designation before spending the next several years working in the energy sector.
My family relocated to the Cowichan Valley in 2015. Since moving to Vancouver Island, my experience has expanded into the not-for-profit and construction sectors, along with progressively more senior finance leadership roles. Throughout my career, I’ve worked with businesses navigating growth, change and increasing complexity, and I’ve seen the value of having experienced financial leadership involved not just in reporting the results, but in planning, problem-solving and the decisions that shape the business.
Over time, I increasingly saw business owners spending significant time managing the financial side of their business — often taking them away from the areas where their expertise, energy and attention could have the greatest impact. That's what led me to create NorthStar — to give business owners access to experienced financial leadership and ongoing support in a way that fits their needs and makes sense for their business, so they can spend more time focused on running and improving it.
